It was a dark and stormy Sunday, but that didn’t stop more than 3,000 meatophiles from heading over to Artscape Wychwood Barns for The Grid‘s Burger Day on June 3, 2012. Burger Day was the culmination of awhole week of food festivities which involved over 20 restaurants in Toronto offering $5 sliders, beer-n-burger specials and fancy black-tie burgers.

And was it ever popular! From The Grid:

With 23 restaurants serving their finest grilled creations (and one serving a delicious dessert burger), over 10,000 burgers were sold in all, which we estimate works out to about 1,400 pounds, or 23 cubic feet, of meat. With roughly 73 burgers sold per minute, vendors were sold out well before the scheduled 4:30 p.m. end time.

Large scale public events like Burger Day work well at Artscape Wychwood Barns because we’re able to maximize a number of indoor and outdoor spaces at the facility. By using the Covered Street Barn, the Barn 4 courtyard and the green space in front of the Christie Street entrance, there was plenty of room to set up BBQ stations, bar stations, a separate Muskoka Brewery beer garden, seating areas and a stage. Plus, there was enough space in the Covered Street Barn for people to take refuge when the rain took over.
